Madison County, Tennessee-The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is adding a new member to their team.
“She is a special dog. This is also her nature. The way she approached that person there, she was a bit like a comfort dog,” Madison County Sheriff John Mayer said.
The State Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a competition with the Sheriff’s Office, where you can choose the name of the new female black laboratory.
“People will donate $5, you can enter a name, and they will actually choose that name with us,” Meyer said.
Unlike other K-9s, she will use the smell preservation kit to help find lost people with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other similar diseases.
“This is an evidence-grade jar. An individual can wipe it 10 times under his arm, then put it in this jar and seal it, and it will store your human scent,” Paul Coley, CEO of Scent Evidence K-9 Say.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that these kits will be ready for distribution soon, but they are required to be distributed only to those who need them.
“Well, this is our first major push here. I think we have about a thousand kits here, and the sheriff’s office will be ready to ship here in the next few weeks,” Coley said.
If you have loved ones and want to keep their smell in an emergency, you can contact the sheriff’s office.
