He told New York Magazine on Monday that Kieran Culkin, his wife Sir Chatton and their children had survived the pandemic in the same bedroom apartment that the actor has lived in Manhattan since the age of 19.
At the time of the interview, the 38-year-old Culkin was filming the third season of the HBO comedy “Inheritance” in Italy, in which he played Roman Roy. He said that once the actor returns to the United States and settles down, he plans to use his 19-year apartment in the East Village for a more spacious space.
“I finally made money for the first time in my career in my 30s,” he joked, as a tribute to the explosive popularity of the Emmy-winning show.
Chatton and Culkin are currently expecting their second child, so the actor is eager to make room for the newest member of their family.
“Her due date is five to six weeks, but the baby may be born sooner,” he said. “I have to let us go home or we will have an Italian baby!”
Culkin previously talked about the “600 square foot one-bedroom apartment” he moved directly in from his mother’s house in the 2020 “WTF With Marc Maron”.
After a month of isolation, when their daughter Kinsey Sioux was about 6 months old, the actor said he decided to rent the studio under them.
“That’s just in case one of us gets sick and we have to self-isolate. This is for work, like this, to get my fucking face away from my wife’s face,” he explained .
Culkin said they kept the mattresses left by the former tenants of the studio. Although he and Chatton put a rubber cover on it, he complained that the couple’s clean sheets could not hide the strong rubber smell.
Since many of his neighbors moved out of the building during the pandemic, the actor set up the studio with their leftover furniture in the lobby, wiping each piece with pineapple-scented antibacterial wipes (the only scent he could find).
