In 2020, the sales of indoor bicycle equipment soared, with the super popular Peloton bicycle leading the way. But just because it’s in your home and not a gym, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be cleaned regularly. Home fitness equipment still needs daily wiping.
It is especially important to implement good cleaning practices in homes with more than one Peloton rider. If multiple people use the machine at the same time, bacteria and germs are likely to spread and cause infection or disease.
You really need to perform basic post-riding cleaning to keep your spinning bike in good hygiene. To do this, just develop a very 2020 habit and apply it to your Peloton bike-just like we use regular and routine hand washing, plan to use regular Peloton cleaning habits.
Cleaning your stationary bike after each ride will keep it in good working condition, without the need for time-consuming deep cleaning later, and most importantly, keep the machine free of sweat and bacteria.
No fancy things or special cleaning products are required to clean the Peloton bike (or any other fitness equipment). Cleaning Peloton only requires a microfiber cloth and a gentle multi-purpose cleaning spray (such as Mrs. Meyer’s daily cleaner).
Working down from the top of the bicycle frame, gently wipe each part. Pay special attention to high contact areas such as handlebars, seats, and resistance knobs—and other areas that may be saturated with sweat.
To protect the machine from damage, please avoid using products containing abrasives, bleach, ammonia or other harsh chemicals, and spray the cleaner on the microfiber towel instead of directly on the bicycle. Do not let the cleaning spray soak the cloth; it should only be damp, and the machine and bicycle seat should not get wet after cleaning. (If it is, please wipe it dry with a new microfiber cloth). Pre-moistened cleaning wipes, such as Clorox wipes without bleach, or even baby wipes, can also be used to clean the frame of a Peloton bicycle or treadmill.
Peloton accessories should not be ignored when wiping after rotation, but since items such as splints and bicycle mats are not as good to the touch as the machine itself, there is no need to clean them frequently. However, you may want to include them in your regular cleaning routine, as they all only need to be wiped with a mild detergent and towel.
However, your heart rate monitor is in frequent contact and should be cleaned regularly; follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure that you will not damage the monitor due to improper cleaning.
Peloton’s official recommendation for cleaning bicycle touch screens is to use glass cleaners and microfiber cloths that are safe for LCD, plasma, or other flat screens (such as Endust LCD and plasma screen cleaners).
For convenience, screen cleaning wipes can also be used on Peloton screens, although the things you easily get will lose cost and waste, because disposable wipes are more expensive than reusable microfibers and generate more trash . Before cleaning, always press and hold the red button on the top of the tablet to turn off the screen.
Peloton said that cleaning the screen once a month is not enough to prevent the growth of bacteria-especially on equipment shared by multiple people. Instead, plan to wipe the touch screen with a microfiber cloth or cleaning cloth after each ride. And, of course, don’t forget to wash your hands immediately after working out!
One last handy tip for you: Put supplies such as wipes, spray bottles, and cleaning cloths in the trash can or basket near the bicycle, as well as shoes and other accessories for easy access.
