After spending so much time at home, all aspects of travel today seem to be exciting, from finding flight deals to queuing up for boarding. It is in this situation that the musician Ciara has launched a new series of backpacks, so cute and stylish, you may find yourself happy to take it with you. Known as Dare to Roam, the brand offers adult and child-sized backpacks made of antibacterial, waterproof nylon, with interesting colors such as light-colored periwinkle and coral. “Considering everything we have experienced during the pandemic, you want to stay safe while roaming,” Ciara said. “When you have these backpacks, you add a layer of security.” In addition, the color guarantees that your bag will stand out from other bags at the airport.
To celebrate the launch, Ciara chatted with Conde Nast Traveler about her adoption of her hometown (she lives in the Seattle area with her football star husband Russell Wilson), her suggestions for flying with children and their toys, and the colorful Hotel gym.
Man, I like to be comfortable. I will wear human sportswear. I’m the kind of girl who wears sportswear, it’s very simple. Depending on the time of the year, I might wear some flip flops, but if the weather is colder, then some good sneaks. I like being relaxed and comfortable.
Now, I have my hand sanitizer. Regarding Aquaphor, this is always important to me. I have wet wipes, makeup remover wipes. If I need a quick touch up before going, I will put on makeup there. Those basic necessities that I need to prepare for the day, I prefer to put them in the bag. Of course, there is also my blanket, just like a child’s blanket. I just don’t like traveling without blankets. I rotate [them] throughout the year.
That’s why I like my blanket! Because I put the blanket on my head-I left a little space for air to circulate. But when I did this, I was in the dark, as if I was sleeping in my room, and it made things a little quieter. Some people like to wear a sleep mask, so I think whatever makes you feel like a darker room is really helpful.
Flying fast, if I have a lot of work to do, I will finish my job. If it is a long-distance trip, it is a mixture of a little work and a little entertainment. My order is this: complete my work, reply to my email, and no matter what creative project I need to check, I will complete it. Then I will watch a movie or something. Then I played those games on the plane, such as Solitaire and Tetris. Then I will go to bed. When you sleep, it always runs faster.
You must have everything they like to make them happy. So we try to keep our children away from the iPad at home, but I do think that if you bring their iPad, download their favorite programs-because Wi-Fi often doesn’t work. Download the games they like. Let them pick some of their toys. When they choose it, they feel powerful. They like to be independent and participate in the decision-making process. And I also want to say to reduce it as much as possible, because there is nothing worse than traveling through TSA with so many things and children. This is a lot.
I am most looking forward to seeing some of my husband’s games on the road. It will be very exciting and refreshing, because we were in-house for the entire season last year.
The last holiday of our fifth anniversary is really special. We went to Venice, Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast, and visited cities like Positano and Capri. I don’t know if it is because I just completed this trip, so it is fresh in my mind and in my heart, but it is definitely very special. Then I can go back to Seychelles, which was a trip when we were engaged. It is difficult to choose only one place, because many places we have been to have also been part of the monumental moments in our lives.
I like Rosewood Hotel and Aman Hotel. Those chain hotels are very consistent, just as stunning as Rosewood in London. The level of service and design is amazing, and the food is great. Tuscany has Hotel Castiglion del Bosco and Rosewood Hotel. The Peninsula Hotel is also always great. You know that when you go to certain places, you think, “Well, what are the first three hotels?” Somehow, I ended up landing on the peninsula.
I like a good spa. I like hot stone massage-this is my jam. A good indoor swimming pool can also be fun. There is also a gym. I like a good gym. When you walk into a good gym, you will be inspired. They may feel bland, when you don’t have all the right things in the room…you need some colors, you need something that will inspire you to get started and try them.
Washington! When I am riding outside, I always say that. I just thought, “This place is so beautiful, and the scenery is amazing.” You can own this city, you can own nature, you can combine it all into one and live in Washington. I’m not the kind of person who cares about life on the lake-now, I haven’t reached the point where I can hook a fishhook with a fishhook, I haven’t reached that point. My son can actually do this in the future. He and his friends did this the other day, which makes me very proud. I used to be afraid of swimming in the lake; black water was a psychological thing to me. I thought, what’s in the water? But I got the appreciation here, go paddling. There are so many! Ride a motorboat. In Washington, they put a lot of thought into the park. This is incredibly amazing. I once said that Washington is a combination of Hong Kong and London in some places. The weather is the same. The weather can be a little gloomy at times, but I don’t mind.
You have San Fermo, this is the oldest house in Ballard. Make sure you get spaghetti bolognese, that is a gem. I did mine minus the coriander, but I just said-you have to get that. There are also Dick’s Burgers, which are really delicious. That line is always very long. We also like a restaurant called Canlis, it’s a bit sophisticated, but it’s definitely a good restaurant with super high quality food. In downtown Seattle, there is a museum district, very beautiful, with the MoPop Museum. You also want to go to Pike Place. Pike Place Market is the location of the first Starbucks. There is always a long line, I will tell you, but they have some cool clam chowder, fresh seafood, right on the water. There are also some good restaurants there, such as Pink Door. This is just a very cute area.
